Apparently tired of playing basketball, the whippersnapper C's took the night off this evening and let the big three old guys take care of business for the rest of them. It didn't matter. Poor Bucks still didn't get a break.
Paul Pierce scored 28 points, Ray Allen added 27 and the pair accounted for all nine points in overtime, lifting the Boston Celtics to a scrappy 102-97 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks on Saturday night.
Allen and Pierce were without the final member of the Big Three, Kevin Garnett, down the stretch after he fouled out midway through overtime, but still managed to give the Celtics their sixth straight win over Milwaukee.
To their credit, the Bucks played hard and well and came very close to pulling this one off tonight. There was no mistaking that they wanted it bad. That's the way it's going to be for the Celtics all season long.
Being the champions is one thing. Being the reigning champs is another and the newness of it for this team shows on all of them. That's ok. They're just getting a taste of what the Spurs, Bulls and the old Lakers and Celtics all came to know quite well.
(Thanks to the Associated Press for the assist)
