paul_p.dribbleAside from the red hot Boston Bruins the holidays have not been too kind to the other Boston sports franchises. After the Celtics loss to the Lakers on Christmas day, they lost their next game to Golden State. Things seemed back in order when they demolished Sacramento by 45 points but wait a minute. They travel to Portland and lose 91-86 with the Trailblazers missing their premier 2008 All-Star guard Brandon Roy and Greg Odom playing on a bum ankle

Boston dominated the first period with Rajon Rando stealing 3 passes, scoring four points to go along with his five assists as the Celtics took a 10 point lead 23-13.

Rudy Fernandez a rookie made his first NBA start for the injured Roy and scored 8 points. He wasn't much of a factor but Odom scored 13 points and had 11 rebounds with one leg. Steve Blake put up 21 while LaMarcus Aldrige was good for 20 but the story of this game was the physicality of it.

Odom shoved Ray Allen to the ground after a foul in the 2nd quarter and drew a standing ovation from the crowd. I guess you have to expect such a classless act such as that to stir the crowd when your playing the world champions but the tone of the game was set. The only way to beat Boston is to be more physical than they are and on that night, Portland players were mugging the Celtics and climbed back into the game by halftime trailing by only five with the score being 45-40.

The third quarter belonged to Portland who played tenacious defense and help Boston to only 19 points. In the fourth Portland held onto their lead until Paul Pierce who scored 28 points hit a free throw to bring the game back to within one point 87-86. It would be their final points of the night as the clock became their nemesis with under a minute left in regulation the Celtics had to foul and Portland hit all four free throws.

Kevin Garnett had 17 points and Ray Allen hit for only 12 on an off night for him and Boston finished it's west coast road trip at 1-3.

It must be noted that with 3 seconds left at the first half  The Blazers' Travis Outlaw hit a basket that wasn't called back even though a technical foul was called on Portland for having six players on the court. It must be tough being the world champs.

Also we all know on Sunday Boston fans found out that their 11-5 New England Patriots were shut out of the post season by losing playoff tie breakers and hoping Brett Farve wouldn't throw any interceptions. He threw three of them.
